Sender-initiated Configuration of an ACK-Tree for Reliable Multicast Transport

چکیده
Tree-based ACK mechanism for reliable multicast service is well-known to provide high scalability as well as reliability. However, it should be followed an efficient ACK-Tree construction mechanism. The ERS(Expanding Ring Search) mechanism which is a receiver-driven bottom-up approach has been mainly used to construct an ACK-tree. However, it is known to cause heavy message overhead and to have possibility to cause loop during tree creation process. In the other hand, top-down approach can guarantee loop-free tree, but it cannot provide concurrent tree creation, so it takes long time to create an ACK-tree. This paper proposes a loop-free ACK-tree creation mechanism that supports semi-concurrent tree creation using sender-initiated approach. In addition, this paper proposes a tree reconfiguration method which can lessen unbalanced and abnormal tree shape which may caused by dynamic group join and leave.

Configuration of ACK Trees for Multicast Transport Protocols
Seok Joo Koh et al. 111 For scalable multicast transport, one of the promising approaches is to employ a control tree known as acknowledgement (ACK) tree which can be used to convey information on reliability and session status from receivers to a root sender. The existing tree configuration has focused on a ‘bottom-up’ scheme in which ACK trees grow from leaf receivers toward a root sender. Th...
متن کاملIRMA: A Reliable Multicast Architecture for the Internet
IRMA is a reliable multicast architecture that guarantees reliable, sequenced, and loosely synchronized delivery of multicast streams. IRMA provides ACK-based reliability, hybrid local server-initiated and sender-initiated loss recovery, and support for end-to-end flow control and congestion control. Unlike most contemporary work, IRMA supports TCP as the reliable multicast transport protocol a...
متن کاملA Combined Group/Tree Approach for Many-to-Many Reliable Multicast
In this paper we present the design, implementation, and performance analysis of Group-Aided Multicast (GAM), a scalable many-tomany reliable multicast transport protocol. GAM achieves high quality ACK trees while keeping the tree maintenance overhead reasonably low in the presence of dynamic group membership and route changes. It is supported by a group configuration mechanism organizing the m...
متن کاملIRMA : A New Reliable Multicast Architecture for theInternetKang
In this paper, we propose a scalable reliable multicast architecture called IRMA which guarantees reliable, sequenced, and loosely synchronized delivery of multicast streams. The IRMA architecture uses ACK-based reliability, a hybrid local server-initiated and sender-initiated loss recovery, and only local state, and provides support for end-to-end ow control and congestion control. In a radica...
متن کاملA Comparison of Known Classes of Reliable Multicast Protocols
We analyze the maximum throughput that the known classes of reliable multicast protocols can attain. A new taxonomy of reliable multicast protocols is introduced based on the premise that the mechanisms used to release data at the source after correct delivery should be decoupled from the mechanisms used to pace the transmission of data and to effect error recovery. Receiver-initiated protocols...
